WigJig News:

First, the results of the New Jersey Bead Society's vote on their favorite WigJig earrings.  And the winner is our "Money" Earrings.  These earring are shown at right.  To view our instructions for how to make these earrings, please select the picture of the earrings.  The Money Earrings are made with two of our Super Pegs in the same size.  They are relatively simple and apparently that is what the bead society preferred.  The early Vegas betting was that one of our new chandelier earring designs would win, but the betting was wrong.  (I should have known that this was a popular design, because I have sold every pair of these earrings that I have made and I don't try to sell anything.)

Next, our schedule for the month of June has us doing demonstrations on how to use our WigJig tools at the Bead and Button Show in the Milwaukee Midwest Airline Center.  The show will be June 17th through 19th and we will be providing demonstrations in the Soft Flex Booth.  Don't look for WigJig, look for Soft Flex and we will be there.  If you visit the show, please stop by and say hello.

Finally, we have a bracelet design contributed by a guest designer.  Cynthia Mariano-Blanchard of Peace River Jewelry contributed the bracelet design shown below.  Cynthia makes these bracelets on one of our WigJig tools using two Super Peg and one regular metal peg.  The bracelets are polished sterling silver and she sells these bracelets for $72 on her web site.

Free Jewelry Design:
With every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new design for this newsletter is the design for the Treble Clef Earrings shown at right.  These earrings are similar to our Money Earrings discussed above.  Rather than do a new Money Earring, we decided to change the design slightly.  The Money Earring design uses two Super Pegs the same size.  This jewelry making design uses two Super Pegs in two different sizes.  We call these earrings Treble Clef because of their similarity to the musical symbol -- the treble clef.

I am not smart enough to tell anyone what the treble clef means in music.  In earrings, it means a simple earring design made with 20 gauge soft wire, that can be completed in about 20 minutes.  Please select either the picture or the name of these earrings at right to visit our instructions for how to make them.

Jewelry Technique:
This weeks jewelry technique is a discussion on how to use the new Argentium anti-tarnish sterling silver wire.  We have discussed in past newsletters how this wire resists tarnish and when it does tarnish, the tarnish does not have the dark black characteristics of conventional sterling silver.  We have a little more experience in using this silver wire and have discovered a few tips that make working with this wire easier.  In fact, the middle of the three Treble Clef Earrings shown above was made with the new Argentium Sterling Silver wire.

The Argentium Sterling Silver Wire has many advantages over conventional sterling silver.  Unfortunately, in one respect it is similar to conventional sterling silver.  The Argentium wire comes from the manufacturer with a light coating of tarnish.  In this respect it is similar to most conventional sterling silver.  You will find that you will get your best results using the new Argentium Sterling Silver if you wash the wire before you use it.  This sounds silly, but is accurate.  The tarnish on Argentium Sterling Silver wire is easily removed with soap and water.  It doesn't require anything more complicated.  Because it is easier to wash all the surfaces of the wire before you bend it into a jewelry components, we recommend that you wash the wire before you use it to make jewelry.  We have tried a drop of dishwasher soap with some water on our finger tips and pulling the wire between our soapy fingertips several times.  This worked well.  You will want to wash all the surfaces of the wire.  Our experience is that you won't need to scrub the wire.  You won't need and abrasive pad, just five to ten seconds of rubbing with soap and water, enough to work up a lather.

If you are making jewelry to sell, it is important to have bright shiny pieces for your customers to view, so you will want to wash your wire before you make your jewelry.  If you are making jewelry for yourself, another alternative may be to shower with your jewelry on.  ;-)
