 We
call the "S" shaped wire component that roughly resembles a large figure
8, a Flemish Spiral. We call it that for a perfectly sound reason
-- our mother told us to. In doing some research into the term, it
seems that a "Flemish Spiral" is defined as an "S" or "C" shaped scroll
used in Flemish Renaissance furniture. While this doesn't
translate directly into jewelry, we plan on continuing to call this wire
component the Flemish Spiral for the reason we stated -- our mother told
us to.
Here we show two earrings designs and a bracelet design. After
watching a very short video clip on the Miss America Pageant, we noticed
that several contestants were wearing earrings that were truly shoulder
dusters. In fact, we notices some earrings that appeared to be
about 6-8 inches long. Since it seems that very long earrings are
a coming trend, we decided to make some longer earrings. The
earrings at right are about 4 1/2" long.
Our discussion of this jewelry making project will begin with the
earrings at right, will also discuss how to make a shorter version of
these earrings, will discuss alternative designs like the earrings on
the left and finally, we will discuss how to make a jewelry wire
bracelet like the one shown here.
