The birthstone for October is the tourmaline. There are 14 recognized varieties of tourmaline in a wide variety of colors. The color most familiar to most people is the pink color shown at right. Because tourmaline had a hardness that is the same as most dust, tourmalines are not suitable for everyday wear in rings and bracelets. We recommend considering pink cubic zirconia (CZ)as a replacement for tourmaline. They look the same, but CZs have a hardness of 8.5 and are the fourth hardest naturally occurring material and for this reason are almost impervious to loss of polish due to abrasion. Please select the picture at right to view more information on the tourmaline.
We have three jewelry making kits for October using our pink cubic zirconia gemstones to simulate tourmaline. They are a ring kit, an earring kit and a necklace kit. You can view the items in these kits and links to our instructions for assembling the kit in the table below.
Please select the the picture of the jewelry item or the name of the kit in the middle row above to view that kit in our Internet store, including pricing information on that kit.
If our birthstone specific kits don't meet your needs you can view our four basic types of kits here:
We have many other quick and easy jewelry projects that you can consider. Please select here to view nine 10 minute jewelry making projects that are suitable for beginners or advanced beginners.
PLEASE NOTE: We believe that these jewelry making kits are fantastic values. Customers should not consider that because the prices are so reasonable for these kits that the products are cheap. You would be wrong. We purchase top quality gemstones, man-made gemstones, tools, wire and findings to include in these kits directly from the factory. Our prices are low because we purchase directly from the source and there are no middlemen, no distributors, and no stores with high overhead that need to be paid. We could easily charge three times as much for these kits and they would still be a great value. We are going to sell these kits at a fair price and hope that word of mouth advertising will let people know about what a great value they are. If that doesn't work, our next approach will be to increase the prices commensurate with the value.
