New and Improved Comma Jewelry Wire Earrings Jewelry Making Project

Frequently, we find that after we have completed a design and made a jewelry item, that we find ways to improve it.  This is one of those cases.  After making our Comma Jewelry Wire Earrings and trying them, we learned that they do not stay on very well.  The round shape makes it too easy for them to slide off while they are being worn.  For that reason, we went back to the drawing board and developed the new and improved Comma Jewelry Wire earrings shown at right.  Our instructions for making these new and improved earrings begin below.

Step 1:  Using your nylon jaw pliers, Straighten a segment of 20 gauge soft wire 4 inches long.

Step 2:  Cut the wire with your flush cutter.

Step 3:  Make a loop in one end of the wire with your round nose pliers or with your step jaw pliers.

Step 4:  Position your pegs on your jig in a semi-circle as shown below-left.  You can choose one of many semi-circles on our WigJig Cyclops, or Centaur or Centaur Lite.  The semi-circle shown here works best when your beads are between 8 and 12mm in size.  A smaller semi-circle would work better for smaller beads and a larger semi-circle would work better for larger beads.  Place your initial loop in the wire on the end peg for one end of the semi-circle as shown.  (At the end of these directions, we will discuss how to make these ear wires using Super Pegs on one of our square peg pattern jigs.)

Step 5:  Wrap your wire around the semi-circle of pegs as shown below center.

Step 6:  Remove the wire from your jig and it should appear as shown below-right.

Step 4 Step 5 Step 6
